Pomeranian Geese
We raise the Saddleback Gray Pomeranian Goose on our homestead. Originating in Germany and possibly dating back to the 1550s, the Pomeranian is known within Europe for their single lobed paunch. A paunch is a floppy fat pocket or excess skin that exists between the goose’s legs. Compared to the Cotton Patch Geese that we also raise, the Pomeranian Goose is more vocal and more aggressive when it comes to guarding. They can hold their own against predators. To us, they are docile but they do make their presence known. The Pomeranian Goose is listed as threatened currently with the Livestock Conservancy. With beautiful blue eyes and bills ranging from a pink to orange, this large goose is a great exhibitor bird. They make fine watch dogs in the bird world.
