Emus

Emus

Our journey with emus began in 2011, and we’ve never looked back. These majestic, flightless birds quickly became a cornerstone of our farm, captivating us with their unique personalities, impressive resilience, and versatility. Over the years, emus have brought both joy and purpose to our operation, and we’re proud to have some birds that are now over 11 years old—a testament to the care and commitment we provide.

Our Breeding Focus

From the start, we’ve been dedicated to breeding emus with an emphasis on temperament and resilience. We prioritize birds with calm, manageable dispositions and strong genetics that allow them to thrive in various conditions. This ensures not only the health of our flock but also a positive experience for those who work with or raise emus.

Sustainability and Purpose

Raising emus isn’t just about their unique appeal; it’s also about sustainability. From their large, striking eggs and high-quality oil to their role as ambassadors for education and breed conservation, emus are a vital part of our farm’s mission.

A Lasting Legacy

Looking back on over a decade of raising emus, we’re grateful for the lessons they’ve taught us and the value they bring to our farm. As we continue to raise and breed these incredible birds, our goal is to share their wonder with others while maintaining the highest standards of care and sustainability.

Thank you for joining us on our emu journey—here’s to many more years of raising these amazing birds! 🐦✨

The Second Largest Living Bird

Emus are the second largest living bird by height, just behind the ostrich, and are a fascinating and versatile addition to any homestead. At Stellar Game Birds, we raise Common, Blonde, and White Emus, offering a variety of these majestic birds to suit different preferences.

Why Raise Emus?

Emus are a multi-purpose bird, valued for:

  • Meat: A lean, flavorful alternative to traditional livestock.
  • Eggs: Large and striking, perfect for culinary use or artisan crafts.
  • Emu Oil: A sought-after product made from rendered fat, known for its health and skincare benefits.
  • Pets: With proper care and preparation, emus can make excellent and unique companions.

Important Considerations

While emus are fascinating and rewarding to raise, they are not for beginners. Their large size and specific needs require thorough preparation and research before starting. A well-prepared environment and proper handling are key to successfully raising emus on your homestead.

Before you order:

  • Emus are a commitment. They may be cute as chicks, however as adults, they can get aggressive, especially during the breeding season (November to May).  They can live up to 30 years.
  • Emus do best in pairs and the female picks out her mate. With this said, there is no guarantee that if you buy an emu chick pair, that they will be bonded.
  • If you are looking for pets, we don’t encourage emus being pets due to hormonal changes later on, however if you must, males are more docile than females.
  • Emus need a fencing of at least 6 feet tall as they can climb up fences. We encourage 7-8 foot tall fence.
  • Emus have strong feet that can kick you and injure you. Please be very cautious.
  • You may need a license to own an emu. Please check your state laws on ratites.

We no longer offer hatching eggs. Our eggs that do not  hatch get blown out and sent to artisans for egg art. We only offer chicks with a minimum order of 2 (every emu needs a friend). The prices are always subject to change, therefore we ask you to check our price list frequently for such changes. We fulfill orders first come first serve, with a vetting process. This ensures that all our emus go to a good home.  Chicks can leave the farm as soon as 2 weeks of age to ensure that their legs are strong and the birds are healthy. We have the right to hold on to chicks if we feel they need to be monitored more. We cannot hold chicks if the new owners are not ready without a boarding fee.  Once chicks hatched, we require a non-refundable deposit at the time they are available. Since we cannot ship Emu chicks, transportation will need to be arranged by the buyer. The buyer is responsible to obtain all permits needed for transport. We have worked with a few transporters in the past and can offer suggestions if asked. At times we will transport for a fee if we have enough requests. We no longer have a waitlist for emu and will post availability first come first serve.
