Emus

Emus

Emus are the second largest living bird in height, with the first being the ostrich. We raise Common, Blonde, and White Emus. Emus are a great bird on the homestead. They are known for their meat, eggs, and emu oil (rendered fat) products, but also do make good pets too. We highly advise for research to be done before starting out with emu raising. They are not for the beginning bird enthusiast being that they do get large and preparation is needed prior to obtaining.

Before you order:

  • Emus are a commitment. They may be cute as chicks, however as adults, they can get aggressive, especially during the breeding season (November to May).  They can live up to 30 years.
  • Emus do best in pairs and the female picks out her mate. With this said, there is no guarantee that if you buy an emu chick pair, that they will be bonded.
  • If you are looking for pets, we don’t encourage emus being pets due to hormonal changes later on, however if you must, males are more docile than females.
  • Emus need a fencing of at least 6 feet tall as they can climb up fences. We encourage 7-8 foot tall fence.
  • Emus have strong feet that can kick you and injure you. Please be very cautious.
  • You may need a license to own an emu. Please check your state laws on ratites.

We no longer offer hatching eggs. Our eggs that do not  hatch get blown out and sent to artisans for egg art. We only offer chicks with a minimum order of 2 (every emu needs a friend). The prices are always subject to change, therefore we ask you to check our price list frequently for such changes. We fulfill orders first come first serve, with a vetting process. This ensures that all our emus go to a good home.  Chicks can leave the farm as soon as 2 weeks of age to ensure that their legs are strong and the birds are healthy. We have the right to hold on to chicks if we feel they need to be monitored more. We cannot hold chicks if the new owners are not ready without a boarding fee.  Once chicks hatched, we require a non-refundable deposit at the time they are available. Since we cannot ship Emu chicks, transportation will need to be arranged by the buyer. The buyer is responsible to obtain all permits needed for transport. We have worked with a few transporters in the past and can offer suggestions if asked. At times we will transport for a fee if we have enough requests. We no longer have a waitlist for emu and will post availability first come first serve.
