Swedish Ducks

Blue Swedish Ducks are a nice gentle breed that are exceptionally hardy. In the past, tradition was that the blue colored ducks were hardier than other color ducks as they were more difficult to be seen by predators, were great meat producers. In Europe this made the Swedish ducks very popular. Swedish ducks were a European breed of duck prior to being imported to the United States in 1884. The breed joined the Standard of Perfection in 1904. Today, the Swedish ducks are a great dual purpose breed.  The standard calls for Blue Swedish, however they do come in black, silver, and splash. According to the Livestock Conservancy, they are on the watch list.
