Speckled Sussex Chicken
The Speckled Sussex is a medium sized chicken that is dual purpose for both meat and eggs. It is one of the oldest known chicken breeds, originating from Sussex, England. The breed did not reach America until 1912. They were recognized by the America Poultry Association in 1914. According to the Livestock Conservancy, the Sussex is in recovering status.
The Speckled Sussex is very adaptable in both hot and cold environments, known to be docile and very friendly, making them one of the best backyard birds to own.
