Mini LaMancha
The LaMancha is the only goat breed that was developed in America. They are large goats. We fell in love with LaMancha goats when we purchased our first goat Luna. The calm docile nature of the goat is what attracted us, and the milk production. Being a more traditional farm, having an “American made” goat made it very ideal. Having a homestead, milk production is very important. Having Nigerian Dwaf goats too, we decided to work on Mini LaManchas. They have the milk qualities and composure of LaManchas, but are smaller and ideal for a small/medium homestead. We are members of MDGA (Mini Dairy Goat Association) and our goats are registered through them. Those that cannot be registered are sold as unregistered goats for pet use.
Per MDGA, the Mini LaManchas have specifications in which, “The face is straight and with the ears being the most distinguishing characteristic of the Mini-LaMancha. The ears are either ‘Gopher’ which lack cartilage but do have a ring of skin around the auditory canal or the ‘Elf’ which has some cartilage and should be no longer than an inch long. In does, both ear types are equally accepted but bucks must have ‘Gopher’; ears to be registered. Bucks with elf ears will be registered “Experimental.”
