Tolbunt Polish

Tolbunt Polish

The Tolbunt Polish is a beautiful breed we have on the farm. We have started small but with our genetic knowledge we are able to build up this breed and variety the correct way. We have a flock of Gold laced split Tolbunts and Tolbunts. The Tolbunts are a breed/variety that started weak due to not having a large enough gene pool. This resulted in weak chicks, cross beaks, crooked toes, and other deformities. This was resolved by adding in the Gold Lace Polish variety. With the addition of the Gold Lace Polish, the gene pool got larger, hatch rates become higher, and less problems with chicks. We thought this was a difficult breed but we have been having much luck. In fact, the breed is winning many of our other breeds this summer with their productivity.

Another factor we have to tackle with is that we have both frizzle and non frizzle Tolbunt and Gold Lace Tolbunt Splits. We need to make sure we are not breeding frizzle to frizzle, therefore we have many pens to progress with our breeding.

What Does A Gold Lace Split and Tolbunt Produce?

One of our combination breeding strategies is breeding a Tolbunt to a Gold Lace Split. This breeding will produce 50% Gold Lace Split chicks and 50% Tolbunt marked chicks.

What Does a Split Tolbunt to Split Tolbunt Produce?

Another breeding combination we have is breeding Split to Split tolbunts. This produces a 50% chance of tolbunt split chicks, 25% chicks that are gold lace and not carrying the tolbunt gene, and 25% percent of the chicks of being Tolbunt marked.
